About the artist

Impressionism & Contemporary Art

Lucy Hackett's love for oil painting has endured since her formal college training nearly 20 years ago in her home county of Norfolk. Encouraged and inspired by her college Art tutor who is also an RA trained Fine Artist and Ceramist, Lucy developed a fascination with both light and colour.

Having started out painting in the Norfolk Countryside, she moved to London in 2014 where she began to reach out to a wider audience displaying and exhibiting her works and allowing the energy of City life to grow confidence in her work and the reception it received.

Lucy is particularly interested in the work of impressionists such as Monet and Turner who, although seemingly gentle and serene to today’s viewers, were revolutionists in their use of colour and style, laying the foundation for much of the accepted art works we see today. Lucy’s early work made use of palette knives to build layers of thick oil paint and texture, her more recent work layers thin veils of oil paints to capture the feeling of fleeting light.

Lucy now paints in her home studio in Hertfordshire and creates both original art work and commissioned art works on request.
